Ghana’s gospel fraternity gathered in deep emotion to bid farewell to legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, whose impact on gospel music and Christian ministry shaped generations of believers and music lovers across the country.
The late founder of the Asomafo Band was laid to rest following a solemn funeral ceremony attended by family, ministers of the gospel, musicians, industry stakeholders, and thousands of mourners who came to honour a life dedicated to ministry through music.
Yaw Sarpong rose to prominence through timeless songs such as Wo Haw Ne Hwan, Tie Obiaa, Aduro Yesu, and Awurade Kasa, becoming one of the defining voices in Ghanaian gospel music for decades. His music carried messages of hope, humility, perseverance, and faith, making him a household name across generations.
In 2025, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards in recognition of his immense contribution to Ghanaian music and ministry.
