Award-winning music producer and minister Prophet David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa, has opened up about one of the most difficult seasons of his life after publicly embracing his calling into ministry.
Speaking on The Footprint TV Show, Kaywa revealed that not everyone welcomed his decision to pastor a church. In fact, one of the strongest criticisms came from within the Christian community.
“When I started my ministry, a gospel artist texted me, ‘Who gave you the audacity to start a church? God will judge you.’”
The revelation highlights the challenges he faced at a time when many questioned his transition from being one of Ghana’s most respected music producers to becoming an ordained minister.
Interestingly, Kaywa explained that while some within the gospel fraternity struggled to accept his calling, many people in the secular music industry had long recognised the grace of God upon his life.
According to him, several secular artists affectionately referred to him as “Osofo” because of the way he conducted himself in the studio. Beyond producing music, he often prayed with artists before recording sessions, spoke words of encouragement and prophecy over them, and even advised them to remove lyrics he believed were vulgar or inconsistent with godly values.
These experiences, he said, showed him that ministry is not limited to a pulpit, but is reflected in how one lives and influences others every day.
Kaywa’s story serves as a reminder that answering God’s call is not always met with immediate acceptance. Yet despite the criticism, he remained committed to the assignment God had placed on his life.
