Gospel minister and songwriter Vessel Chordrick has opened up about the story behind his contribution to Team Eternity Ghana’s “Defe Defe,” explaining that he wrote the song as his personal way of supporting the group’s ministry as a friend.
Vessel Chordrick was recently a guest on the Footprint TV show to discuss his latest release, “Menye Wo Den Nie,” featuring Team Eternity Ghana, and also spoke about his music journey and some of the notable songs he has contributed to. The new single was released on September 18, 2026.
Speaking about “Defe Defe,” Chordrick explained that his contribution came from a genuine desire to support Team Eternity, even though he did not necessarily have the financial resources or influence to promote their work in other ways.
“I can’t support with money, I can’t maybe I don’t even have the influence to push the project, but I can write,” he said.
According to Chordrick, writing was the way he could make his own contribution to the ministry.
“My way of supporting, like, I love you guys, you’ve been doing great. This is what I can also do to support you as your friend,” he explained.
“Defe Defe” went on to become one of Team Eternity Ghana’s widely recognised songs, appearing on their 2024 album Testimony.
During the interview, Chordrick was also asked whether he received anything from the group after the song became successful, in reference to the biblical principle that a worker deserves to benefit from their labour.
He confirmed that they did make arrangements with him, although he did not go into extensive detail about what was exchanged.
His story offers a glimpse into the relationships and creative collaborations behind some of Ghana’s contemporary gospel music, while also highlighting the different ways musicians can contribute to one another’s ministry.
