Ghanaian gospel musician and police officer Kofi Sarpong has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) in the Ghana Police Service.
Kofi Sarpong was among 22 senior police officers who were formally decorated with their new ranks at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The ceremony was presided over by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following the approval of the promotions by the President. The officers were elevated from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).
Kofi Sarpong’s promotion marks another significant milestone in a career that has seen him successfully serve in the Ghana Police Service while also building a recognised career in gospel music.
He joined the Ghana Police Service years before venturing into commercial gospel music. He later made his mark in the gospel music industry with his 2010 debut album, Sacrifice, which featured the popular song Ayeyi Ndwom. The song went on to earn him the Gospel Song of the Year award at the following year’s Ghana Music Awards.
Throughout his career, Kofi Sarpong has continued to balance his responsibilities as a police officer with his music ministry. He has also served in senior roles within the Police Service, including as Director of the Procurement Unit, while remaining active in gospel music and charitable initiatives.
His journey has previously seen him rise through the ranks to become an Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2022. In a 2025 interview, he spoke about his progression through the Service, noting that he began his career as a Constable after completing his training and later advanced through several ranks.
The elevation to DCOP adds another chapter to Kofi Sarpong’s remarkable journey across both public service and gospel music, as he takes on greater responsibility within the Ghana Police Service.
